When Maddie knew for sure that the patient had a safe place to discharge to, she went shopping for the patient so that the patient would have the things that she needed.
Maddie was working on the 5th floor for several shifts and had a patient assigned to her. This patient had many needs and many social issues. The patient's family had her transferred to the ER, and then said she needed placement at a skilled nursing facility because they could no longer care for her, and then would not allow the patient to return home. CM was able to locate a care home for the patient to move to, although the patient had absolutely no personal belongings.
When Maddie knew for sure that the patient had a safe place to discharge to, she went shopping for the patient so that the patient would have the things that she needed. Maddie bought the patient house shoes and a blanket and clothes and a coat, and many other items. Not only did she purchase all of these items with her own money, so also purchased a very nice overnight bag for the patient to transport it all in. On her day off, Maddie delivered these gifts to the patient. She helped the patient open the bag and showed the patient item by item, and both of them appeared so happy... Maddie for giving to someone in need, and the patient for being the recipient of these gifts. Maddie went above and beyond in caring for the patient and making sure she had what she needed to be comfortable. She provided phenomenal care to this patient both medically and emotionally.
