I can’t say enough about Shonda. She was my mom's night nurse during her rather extended stay here. The first night I stayed, I met Shonda. My mother had just come off the ventilator after 4 days. Her first night was painful, and she couldn't seem to get comfortable. Like clockwork, every 15 minutes, mom wasn't comfortable. When I went to grab Shonda for help, she stood up quickly and got to work. She had the same reaction to help the first time as she did the 20th time. Consoling mom and assuring that she understood that her pain was normal. She is very proactive as a nurse; when Mom went into afib, she recognized what it could be and immediately ordered labs to confirm her suspicions. I believe that her vast experience has a lot to do with that, but more so that she is just a truly outstanding person who really cares with all of her heart. She's incredibly patient, and I feel as if she treated my mother like family. She took time to get to know her and build a professional bond. It is with all of this in mind that I wholeheartedly endorse Shonda for this prestigious award. She is one of the best nurses I've interacted with during this stay and is leaps and bounds above the average level of care that I expect.
