What truly sets Mo apart is his heart. He leads with compassion, earns trust through his actions, and reminds us all of the profound difference a dedicated nurse can make.
From the Medical Doctor:

I wholeheartedly nominate Mohammad "Mo" Mirza for the DAISY Award, as Mo consistently demonstrates the amazing leadership qualities of compassion, vision, responsiveness, and service. In the past year, the geriatric clinic team has had many changes in staffing, and Mo has stepped up by wearing many "hats" with responsibilities that would normally be handled by multiple people, such as care manager, charge nurse, and floor nurse.

As we have been fortunate to have many new members join our geriatrics team, Mo naturally took the lead to provide each of them with structured orientation and support. He helped create guidelines for patient scheduling and phone triaging. Due to his hard work, we now have a stable team that is working very efficiently. In the mornings, he consistently brings the team together to huddle and have a shared vision to help our vulnerable patient population.

During clinic sessions, he actively supervises the flow of the clinic and addresses the various urgent clinical concerns and walk-ins. However, he doesn't limit himself to only supervision, and there have been many times when the rest of the team is very busy, and he will personally assist a patient with transportation or transferring to the ER. It is not unusual to see him in the afternoon, naturally creating a safe work environment with his consistent and respectful check-ins with the team.

During leadership meetings, Mo can be counted on to give a voice to staff and raise awareness of any new concerns that may be developing in the clinic. In addition to his dependable and thorough work, Mo is also innovative, and his willingness to share new ideas, which range from template adjustments to Kno2 faxing workflow, is refreshing. From the perspective of promoting the field of nursing, Mo was a key representative in the Magnet site visit. Mo is an excellent team player and can always be counted on to help coordinate complicated cases with our BHI and medical teams.

Lastly, despite his many leadership roles, he also finds time to expertly manage a very complex set of ECM patient cases that lead to high patient satisfaction. Patients will often call directly for Mo or comment on how he has consistently greatly improved their care. Given the above leadership qualities that Mo has exemplified in his work, the Geriatrics Clinic at LA General is able to provide the best care to our vulnerable older adult population; Mo is the definition of a DAISY Nurse.

From the Nurse Manager:

Today, we are honored to recognize Mo Mirza, Registered Nurse in our Geriatric Clinic, as a recipient of the DAISY Award.

Mo truly exemplifies what this award represents—extraordinary compassion, dedication, and adaptability in nursing. In a setting where patients often require not only excellent clinical care but patience, reassurance, and genuine connection, Mo consistently meets them with kindness and respect.

Mo is exceptionally responsive to both patients and staff. He listens, follows through, and ensures that everyone feels supported. He has an incredible ability to anticipate needs and step in wherever he is needed, always with a calm and positive presence.

Over time, Mo has continuously adapted to the evolving needs of our service, wearing many hats without hesitation. During periods of short staffing and times of management transition, he willingly stepped into the leadership role of charge nurse, providing stability, guidance, and reassurance to the team. His flexibility, reliability, and willingness to do whatever is needed have made a meaningful impact on both patient care and team morale.

What truly sets Mo apart is his heart. He leads with compassion, earns trust through his actions, and reminds us all of the profound difference a dedicated nurse can make.

Mo, thank you for your unwavering commitment to our patients, your colleagues, and this clinic. It is a privilege to work alongside you, and this DAISY Award is incredibly well deserved.
