It just takes that one nurse who knows what she is doing. One nurse to show she cares. One nurse who goes above and beyond. Alicia did that today, and I am eternally grateful.
I have been sick since February. It’s now June. I have bounced from ER to ER and urgent care to urgent care. I don’t feel anyone took me seriously. They have done the bare minimum, and it shows. Finally, coming here was my last resort.

I passed out at home and figured I would try one more time. I have literally lost all faith in the medical profession at this point, which is sad because my mom was a nurse. Today, my nurse, Alicia, asked the questions no one has asked. She did an EKG and blood work, which is something I have not had happen in the months of trying to figure out what is happening.

I felt heard. Finally, we got an answer, and I am on the path to recovery. It just takes that one nurse who knows what she is doing. One nurse to show she cares. One nurse who goes above and beyond. Alicia did that today, and I am eternally grateful. I don’t think people realize how hard it is for a single mom to even get the time to get seen. To try to arrange childcare just to have an ER visit. Having symptoms dismissed so often takes a toll on your morale as a person.

Nurses like Alicia, who are strong, confident, and know what they are doing, make all the difference. I am so grateful I went to UMC, and so grateful I got the nurse I did. It just takes one to make a difference in someone’s life. Thank you.
