Her insights reinforced for her peers that even small details in skill execution can prevent complications, protect vulnerable patients, and ensure safety at the bedside.
During a critical care skills performance session, Lauren and her peers were practicing advanced interventions such as arterial line draws, chest tube assessment, and oral care for a mechanically ventilated patient. In this exercise, students work in pairs to provide peer feedback, supported by a faculty member and lab RN.

Lauren arrived exceptionally well-prepared—not only mastering the technical steps herself but also using her prior NICU experiences to enhance the group’s understanding. She shared how ventilation equipment and nursing assessments are applied in neonates, bridging classroom learning with real-world patient care. She also asked thoughtful, probing questions that challenged her peers and instructors to think more deeply about safety and comfort across the lifespan. As a result, the group’s practice session shifted from simply performing tasks to critically reflecting on how their skills translate to safer, more compassionate patient outcomes.

Lauren’s judgment and ability to integrate knowledge into a team setting elevated everyone’s learning experience. Her insights reinforced for her peers that even small details in skill execution can prevent complications, protect vulnerable patients, and ensure safety at the bedside. Lauren is a strong exemplar of how passion for patient care contributes to patient safety, comfort, good team dynamics, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
