Marianne is the nurse everyone knows they can count on.
Marianne has been a devoted and compassionate lead nurse in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) for many years, and the positive impact she has made on our students, families, and fellow nurses is truly immeasurable.
I have had the blessing of knowing and working with Marianne even before becoming a Registered Nurse. From my early days as an LPN, through earning my ADN and BSN, and now as a Certified School Nurse, Marianne has been a constant source of guidance, mentorship, and encouragement. Her unwavering support and belief in me have played a significant role in shaping my nursing journey and professional growth.
Marianne is the nurse everyone knows they can count on. Her depth of nursing knowledge, coupled with her strong grasp of CPS protocols and procedures, makes her an invaluable resource to our entire team. She is always ready to share her expertise—patiently explaining, providing resources, and ensuring that everyone feels supported and confident in their work. Marianne doesn’t just answer questions; she empowers others to succeed.
Her compassion and kindness shine through in every interaction. Marianne truly leads with her heart. I will never forget one particular moment when a student needed multiple immunizations. Marianne held the student’s hand, shed tears with them, and gently reassured them until it was over. That moment perfectly reflects who she is—a nurse whose empathy and humanity comfort both children and adults alike.
Marianne’s dedication also extends beyond her daily responsibilities. Working in predominantly Spanish-speaking communities, she took the initiative to learn Spanish so she could communicate more effectively with students and families. Her willingness to bridge language gaps and connect with families on a personal level reflects her deep commitment to inclusion and trust within the community.
Affectionately known as “my Spicy Quesadillas,” Marianne is a fierce advocate for the students and families of CPS, as well as for her fellow nurses. She uplifts everyone around her with her humor, spirit, and fierce sense of advocacy. As a preceptor, mentor, and lead nurse, Marianne has inspired and guided countless school nurses, leaving an enduring legacy of compassion, excellence, and leadership.
It is with great admiration and gratitude that I wholeheartedly nominate Nurse Marianne Galloway for the Daisy Award. Her dedication, kindness, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others embody the very essence of what this award represents. Marianne truly makes a difference every single day—and CPS is a better place because of her."
