We had an 18-year-old with developmental delays on an adult inpatient unit for several months. As her discharge had been delayed several times, the CICCU team wanted her transition to a new facility to be special. Candace kept bubbles and decorations in her locker for weeks and prepared to come in if she was not working to help decorate the patient’s room and hall as she was being discharged.

When the discharge was confirmed, she gathered the staff and ensured the patient was excited and felt special as she was facing a major change. They sent the patient off with a tiara, bubbles to continue to have at her new facility, balloons, and noise makers. Candace always goes above and beyond as an exceptional critical thinker and advocate for the patient's care plan and discharge.

Whether she is staffing or charging, patients, staff, and physicians are grateful to have her as a resource and caregiver, contributing to the team. This instance was just one that displayed her compassion for our patients. She always acts as a leader and role model for others, and we are grateful for her as a member of the CICCU team.
