Andrew has helped my Dad (a 93-year-old Stage IV Prostate Cancer patient), my Mom, my brother, and me as family members on two occasions this week. My Dad had a Foley catheter inserted earlier this week due to hematuria and blood clots, and the collection bag had an open seam, resulting in a leak later that night.

Andrew saw my Dad and Mom the next day to remedy the situation by installing a new bag. He didn't just replace the defective night bag; he added a day bag for comfort/convenience and instructed my parents on how to change from one bag to another. The next evening, the catheter wasn't draining into the collection bag at all; it just wasn't working properly.

I called to schedule an appointment to have the catheter assessed. Andrew called me at home to get a better understanding of the issue, to see if he could assist, and perhaps avoid a trip. I explained the issue and that I suspected a clot at the tip of the catheter was occluding the flow of urine. Andrew agreed that a clinic visit was needed. My Dad returned to the clinic with my Mom and brother present and with me on speakerphone. Andrew irrigated the catheter, explaining all steps, and extracted a few clots. He had my Mom to return the demonstration to verify that she had a clear understanding of this procedure. He provided the necessary supplies to my Mom for her to have on hand at home.

Andrew is thoughtful, compassionate, and quite a wonderful and humorous teacher. He made my Dad and family feel so relaxed, as previously they were worried and felt overwhelmed. Even before the return office visit this afternoon, Andrew called me again to state that he did speak with the doctor regarding the catheter issue and my concern over the recent urine culture. He reviewed with me the doctor’s instructions and plan for my Dad that afternoon. Andrew called me at home (Savannah, Georgia) twice today, expertly handled the issue of my Dad's catheter clogged by a blood clot, provided excellent teaching, and helped instill confidence, and provided his contact information at work to my parents should there be any further issues.

This week, Andrew has consistently gone above and beyond in assisting my Dad and family in a highly professional and compassionate manner. We are so very grateful and feel so fortunate to have encountered Andrew! We cannot commend him or thank him adequately!
