My nephew is a 28-year-old male who had a subglossectomy, which is the removal of most of his tongue. We can all imagine how devastating this can be. He also had to have a tracheostomy in place to protect his airway for this procedure. Jaime Groth was his nurse on the second day. She walked in with a huge smile and charisma; her knowledge in everything she did made her care so precise, and her dedication made him feel safe and comfortable. She demonstrated what the true meaning of being a nurse is supposed to be. She treated him so kindly and lovingly as if he were her son.

Her treatment of him made our entire family fall in love with her and trust her with his care. She made him smile and feel that everything he is going through is temporary, and he will be back on his feet in no time. I overheard a conversation between her and him where she is telling him not to worry, but she could see the fear in his eyes. She explained that the human body is amazing, and it will heal, and he will be back to dancing to his favorite music in no time. The expression on his face made him and us have hope in this new journey he is going through.
