He consistently balances the technical demands of progressive care with the human side of healing.
It is with the utmost respect and gratitude that I nominate Nurse Piercy Wayne from the 12A Medical Progressive Unit for the DAISY Award. Piercy is the true embodiment of Loma Linda University Health’s mission to deliver whole-person care, and he exemplifies what it means to lead with deep compassion.
In a fast-paced, high-acuity environment like 12A, it’s easy to get caught up in the urgency of tasks, but not for Piercy. He consistently balances the technical demands of progressive care with the human side of healing. But what truly makes Piercy stand out is his heart. His compassion is quiet but powerful. You’ll find it in the way he explains things to scared patients in words they can understand, in how he advocates fiercely for those who can’t speak for themselves, and in the unhurried moments he spends listening when someone just needs to be heard.
One family recently shared how Piercy took the time to talk to the patient's wife during a particularly rough night. She was anxious, confused, and disoriented, but Piercy spoke to her with such gentleness and patience that she soon calmed down. The patient's daughter later said, “He treated my mom like she was his own family. He was attentive and made us feel seen and cared for in the middle of chaos.”
Piercy is also a role model for his peers. He welcomes new nurses with humility and mentorship, offers a helping hand without being asked, and uplifts the unit with his positive attitude. He doesn’t seek recognition; he simply shows up, day after day, delivering excellence because that’s who he is.
In every sense, Piercy Wayne represents the very best of our nursing community. His care reaches beyond the bedside; it touches lives, restores dignity, and reflects the healing ministry that Loma Linda University Health is known for.
For his remarkable skill, humility, and unwavering compassion, I wholeheartedly nominate Nurse Piercy Wayne for the DAISY Award.
