One day, she took her to the healing garden, which did wonders for her mental and physical well-being. That small act made a huge difference in her recovery.
My 21-year-old sister was admitted to the MICU with a severe case of pneumonia. At one point, her condition became so critical that the doctors considered intubation. It was her first-ever stay in an ICU, and understandably, she was scared and overwhelmed. We were incredibly fortunate to have this person as her nurse. When my sister was at her weakest, this nurse was right there at her side offering encouragement, compassion, and strength. She gently pushed my sister to get out of bed and ambulate, even when she felt like she couldn’t.
One day, she took her to the healing garden, which did wonders for her mental and physical well-being. That small act made a huge difference in her recovery. This nurse also ensured she ate, even after days without an appetite. While my sister sometimes felt that other members of her care team were limiting her, she felt that this nurse truly believed in her and inspired her to keep fighting.
She kept my family and me informed every step of the way, providing consistent updates and offering us the reassurance we so badly needed. She is not only compassionate but incredibly knowledgeable, and it showed in everything she did. As a fellow nurse at Grady, I was deeply moved to witness the level of care, dedication, and heart this nurse brings to her work. It made me proud to know that I work alongside nurses like her, nurses who leave a lasting impact on both their patients and their colleagues.
