Jamie made me want to be a better nurse myself and has inspired me to do better every day.
I delivered my baby, and she was taken to the nursery for 8 hours almost immediately after delivery because her oxygen was low. I was hysterical because A was my 4th baby, and I had never experienced that before. Jamie was very compassionate and made sure I got to see my baby. She took me to the nursery after gowning up and took me to a private room so that I could hold my baby while she was still being monitored. Just seeing her for 10 minutes was the best feeling I’ve ever had in my life, and it wouldn’t have been possible without Jamie.
Once I finally got my baby back from the nursery and her oxygenation problems had resolved, she became hypoglycemic, and I felt like formula was being forced on me when my heart was set on exclusively breastfeeding, as I have all of my other children in the past. Jamie made sure that I had everything I needed to effectively pump so that I wouldn’t have to give the baby formula, and she strongly advocated for our wants and needs. As a nurse myself, I know how hectic being a nurse can be, and I myself get rushed and sometimes don’t spend as much time with my patients as I would like, but she never seemed rushed or bothered, despite my many needs. I am nominating her because when she cared for me, it truly made a difference, and I will never forget her. She made me want to be a better nurse myself and has inspired me to do better every day.
