There is no single story as to why Catherine deserves the DAISY Award. I’ll try to explain the incredible nurse that she is, but it may be difficult to capture her compassion, empathy, and dedication in a few short words.

Catherine goes above and beyond for every individual she encounters, whether they are staff, patients, families, or people in passing. She ensures every individual feels listened to, appreciated, and understood. On difficult shifts, she is always there supporting staff as much as she can and making us laugh when things get hard. Catherine is the type of nurse who will stop what she’s doing to help a colleague or family member. She is the type of nurse who will answer any question a thousand times until it’s understood, and the type of nurse who seems to be few and far between.

She is dedicated to providing outstanding nursing care. The knowledge that she has is incredible, and she is always finding new things to learn to expand her knowledge to provide the best care to our babies. She continually supports junior staff, seeking opportunities for learning, providing knowledge, resources, and a guiding hand in their nursing journey.

I’ve worked with Catherine for the last eighteen months; she has supported me from being a newly qualified nurse to a qualified specialty nurse. I’ve cried and laughed multiple times with her, usually over the same things, and yet she still listens like it’s the first time and provides support and compassion. She has instilled so much confidence and knowledge into me that has led me to where I am today, and I’m so grateful for the continued support she has provided throughout my time on the neonatal unit.

In summary, Catherine is an outstanding nurse who deserves recognition for her hard work. I’m sure I speak on behalf of all my colleagues and families on the neonatal unit when I say thank you, Catherine, for your care and compassion. I can’t think of a nurse more deserving.
