His vision, integrity, and humanity have made a lasting impact on me, on our team, and on our patients.
Since joining our Perioperative Services team, Lionel has exemplified what true leadership looks like: intelligent, steady, and unwaveringly supportive. He leads with both strength and humility, holding his team accountable while simultaneously creating an environment where we can grow, learn, and succeed. His leadership is rooted in trust, fairness, and genuine care for his people.
What makes Lionel truly exceptional is his ability to balance direct feedback with empathy and encouragement. I know that I can trust him to challenge me, guide me, and stand by me all at the same time. Under his leadership, I have been able to focus on meaningful work, achieve professional growth, and find a renewed sense of purpose in nursing leadership.
One moment that stands out to me was during a particularly difficult period when I experienced public criticism and humiliation in a professional forum. No one had ever intervened for me before, but when Lionel joined our team, that changed. In a similar setting, when someone attempted to demean me again, Lionel stopped the meeting and said firmly that such behavior was unacceptable and would not be tolerated toward his management team. That single moment redefined what leadership means to me: advocacy, respect, and courage.
His presence has transformed our culture. Our department has grown stronger, more cohesive, and more focused because of his leadership. I have learned that great things can be accomplished when even an ounce of support is offered, and Lionel gives far more than that. He sees his people not just as employees, but as individuals with families, dreams, and potential.
I’ve been able to share personal and professional challenges with him openly, and he always responds with compassion, perspective, and guidance that helps me find balance and clarity. Lionel doesn’t lead for recognition; he leads because he cares deeply about people and the profession of nursing. His vision, integrity, and humanity have made a lasting impact on me, on our team, and on our patients.
We are truly lucky to have him. He embodies the very spirit of the DAISY mission: extraordinary compassion and leadership that inspires others to be their best selves.
