Ms. Simone Reed helped my son, who almost died in an MVA, and didn't have responsiveness until she was in charge of his care. Although he was intubated, heavily medicated, and non-responsive, her compassionate aura alone gave him the will to break through the sleep to respond at every command given, from squeezing her hand to raising his paralyzed leg, which no one, including the doctors, could get him to do. Her voice alone, as she was over his care, gave him the strength to fight through even the sedation, as she had the sweetest soul. She was also his nurse at his first extubation and truly went exceedingly above working tirelessly and diligently to ensure he knew she was with him, staying by his bedside even with the smallest movement and watching carefully when outside the room or with another patient and encouraging him to breathe and stay calm as he awakened at extubation and ensured he saw her and understood who she was so he wouldn't feel scared with all of the presence in the room. Unfortunately, the extubation was unsuccessful, but he still remembers her to this day above all the other caretakers who were in charge of his care. She left a mark on him that is so positive; he still asks about her today. He is thriving now, awake, talking, walking, and ready to go home. She left a mark on me and my daughter, who has been bedside with him since his arrival in Emergency. As his nurse, she ensured she talked to him, encouraging him that she would care for him in this way, and she assured us that he is still able to hear and respond. He breathed over the vent with her even being fully vented and no other caregiver that was in charge of his care could get him to do. Her voice remained calm, sweet, and gentle, and her love for her patients had shone more than any other I've seen in the two months he had been hospitalized. If she continued to care for our children who are suffering traumatic situations, they too would feel the love she has for them, as my son did. He woke up and, upon his first speech, asked his mom where Simone was. I can't thank her enough for aiding in saving my son's life and having such a positive impact on my family. She stood out for going above and beyond to ensure not only my son but also our family had everything we needed, including peace of mind, during the process of seeing him in such a critical state. We just love her. She's so amazing! The time, effort, and level of care she put into caring for my son were remarkable. Her spirit is unimaginable upon entering the room. My son felt her presence upon her entrance and immediately started reacting before she even spoke. She was a breath of fresh air in the care of my son and always stayed attentive, stopping by in passing to speak to him and our family so we would know she still cared, even if she wasn't caring for him while on shift. After having doubts about whether he would make it, she was the it factor in changing how I felt about the hospital.
