Integrity
Rhiannon works very hard to be a fair and transparent leader. She gives her staff opportunities for professional development and addresses their concerns immediately.
Commitment
Since joining our team, she has steered and guided the unit in the right direction. That action alone was refreshing. With her open-door policy, she is always open to a conversation. She helps out where it is needed. She is an awesome leader!
Advocacy
Rhiannon, aka “Boss lady,” fosters a supportive and encouraging work environment. She advocates for her staff and encourages us to grow and take on challenges professionally. She is always looking for ways to make the unit better and run smoothly.
Respect
Rhiannon demonstrates kindness towards both patients and employees. She sets a tone of empathy and understanding within the entire team. She makes time to be visible on the unit and interacts directly with the veterans on the unit. She is a great leader!
A patient expressed appreciation for Rhiannon's support while receiving inpatient mental health care.
"She is a great nurse manager when it comes to things I felt needed to be handled at the next level of management. It is great to be a veteran who feels heard. Sometimes it is not easy, given the circumstances on this ward. I greatly appreciate the effort put forth to handle things like moving my room. Thank you."
Excellence
In addition to her supervisory duties, Rhiannon serves as the Incident Command Operations Branch Co-Lead. She supported the facility during the shelter-in-place for Hurricane Helene and the facility evacuation during Hurricane Milton. Emergency preparedness has long been a passion for Rhiannon, which was a significant focus in her previous role under Nursing Operations Service.
She recently received a compliment from a community partner regarding her support of their facility during a COVID outbreak.
In 2020, Eunice and I, serving as Director of Nursing and Administrator, respectively, were urgently transferred from a well-managed community where our protocols were intentionally structured, and outcomes were stable, into a building in complete crisis. The location had been mismanaged, and a severe COVID outbreak had taken hold. We were dropped in without warning or preparation, only with a sense of responsibility and the drive to lead where things had unraveled.
It was in that moment of extreme uncertainty that we crossed paths with Rhiannon. Being offered support from FEMA and choosing to accept it when so many other ALFs declined was a crucial decision. That single choice led us to you. You, Dr. Covington, and the team you led showed up with strength, clarity, and compassion.
You didn't just help us regain control; you made it possible for us to become even stronger leaders in the process. Your presence brought structure where there had been none, steadiness in the midst of chaos, and a sense of possibility when we were running on grit alone.
What you brought wasn't just emergency response; it was inspired, skilled, and deeply human leadership that allowed our team to not only stabilize, but also evolve. The lives you touched weren't just saved; they were reshaped. Our residents were given a true chance to rebound. Our leadership team emerged bonded through adversity, strengthened by the example you set, and empowered to continue forward as true agents of change.
