Andre was very helpful and understanding of my situation, considering the circumstances that brought me to the hospital. My hands were frostbitten as a result of drug use. He made me feel comfortable, and our conversations were easy-going, almost as if I were talking to a peer.

He reminded me that a lot of people struggle with an addiction they can’t control. I was seen and heard as a human being who was suffering from my mistakes of using drugs to cope with depression. He took the time to talk to me about the dangers of what I was doing. He said I was lucky to still be alive after all I’ve done to myself.

His words were, “You’re still here, and you’re here for a reason.” He made me feel less guilty and ashamed about my actions, leaving me inspired and motivated. He’s more than a nurse.
