Brian stepped up and immediately took control.
I would like to take this opportunity to commend a nurse named Brian, who cared for me in the ER when I was first admitted to Reading Hospital. My stay resulted from excessive bladder bleeding and clotting after a cystoscopy was performed, and a subsequent catheter was inserted in the doctor’s office on the same day. When I was brought to the ER room, I was lightheaded and in excruciating pain from a blood clot that wouldn’t pass through the catheter. The first person seemed to be unsure how to deal with my situation, and then Brian stepped up and immediately took control. What impressed me about Brian was the way he exhibited professional, decisive, immediate, and compassionate care. He removed and inserted a new catheter, irrigated me to remove the clot, and relieved my pain. What impressed me most was that while he was doing all of this, he was explaining and instructing the other person in how to perform the procedure. I am a retired Army Officer and have received the best nursing care in Army facilities, and Brian’s care was certainly on par with this. After the pain subsided, I subsequently found out that Brian was a former police officer and a US Marine, both of which contributed to his exemplary performance. Brian is a credit to himself, Reading Hospital, and the Profession of Nursing.
