Carol’s educational journey has not been easy, but it reveals her integrity and accountability.
Carol lives the mission, values, and spirit of The DAISY Foundation and the core values of our institution. Excellence is one of Carol’s defining characteristics. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout every semester of nursing school, even while managing extraordinary personal demands. Her academic performance reflects not only intelligence but a commitment to deep thinking, ethical reflection, and careful attention to detail. Her written work consistently demonstrates advanced clinical reasoning and maturity well beyond that of a typical nursing student. She is one of the rare individuals who brings equal strength to cognitive, clinical, and compassionate dimensions of nursing. Carol’s educational journey has not been easy, but it reveals her integrity and accountability. Throughout nursing school, Carol has balanced caring for two daughters—one a toddler and one a high school student—as well as supporting a sick parent in China. At one point, she was running her own business while completing her coursework. Despite these pressures, she never compromised her standards. Instead, she made the difficult decision to step back from her business so that she could devote herself fully to her education. She holds herself accountable for delivering work of the highest quality, and she models for her 17-year-old daughter the power of perseverance and academic excellence. Their shared commitment to mutual success, with both achieving 4.0 GPAs, is a testament to Carol’s character and influence. In the clinical environment, Carol exemplifies compassion and respect. During her preceptorship on a high-acuity, high-demand critical care unit, she has earned remarkable feedback from her RN preceptor. Carol is rapidly developing proficiency with complex patient care, but even more importantly, she shows natural empathy in her interactions with patients and families. She approaches each person—regardless of acuity, background, or circumstance—with dignity, patience, and genuine presence. After an especially demanding shift, Carol reflected on the importance of following through with patients and families to build trust and strengthen communication. This reflection reveals her commitment to the human elements of nursing. Carol understands that extraordinary nursing is not solely defined by technical skill, but by the emotional connections nurses build with those they serve. She consistently demonstrates this through quiet acts that often go unnoticed but profoundly impact patient experiences. Carol also demonstrates respect and teamwork in her interactions with classmates and staff. She is thoughtful, kind, and collaborative—always willing to assist peers, offer clarification, or extend support during challenging coursework or clinical moments. She does these things without ever seeking recognition. She simply believes it is the right thing to do.
