I have been very fortunate to have Susie as one of my nurses during my time at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. It’s hard to adequately describe how phenomenal a nurse and human being she is.

One particular day comes to mind in which she demonstrated the depth of her care for my family and me. During my second week at Shirley Ryan, I was able to receive some boots that would allow me to walk more easily and would ultimately accelerate my recovery.

The shoes arrived on Saturday, and I had no therapies scheduled the next day, a Sunday. Susie knew that I was eager to use those new shoes and work on my rehab, so she took it upon herself to get clearance to take me for a walk in my new shoes that Sunday. She went above and beyond and brought me joy.

My mother was also visiting me at that time, so Susie’s generous effort allowed my mom to see me walk around the gym, which was incredibly meaningful to her.

Afterwards, Susie made sure that my mom, who is handicapped, was able to get down to her ride smoothly and easily. This is just one such example of how Susie cares for her patients and creates a wonderful environment at Shirley Ryan.
