Vikki consistently goes above and beyond in her support of our staff. She exemplifies a deep passion for both nursing and continuous learning.
In the short amount of time that Vikki has been part of the East Hospital team, I have had the privilege of getting to know her and collaborating with her. Vikki is a highly experienced Nursing Professional Development Practitioner who joined Ohio State from an external hospital system. Despite the challenges of transitioning into a new role and adapting to a new organization, she quickly demonstrated her commitment to excellence and team collaboration.

Immediately, Vikki wanted to find ways to engage the team members across the hospital system to ensure educational initiatives were inclusive and effective for all staff. She has been instrumental in creating collaborations in our smaller hospital network. Specifically, Vikki leads the way in coordinating the different NPDPs and Clinical Nurse Specialists throughout our small hospital system.

She worked closely with the different team members to determine appropriate ECG tests that we would administer to the staff and reviewed the CVC dressing change with us so that we could all help facilitate the hospital staff. She included us in every step of the planning process to ensure that we collaborated and listened to the unique needs of our departments.

During one of the ECG and CVC dressing change competency sessions, I watched her work with a wide variety of staff members, many of whom were not part of her regular team. She created a comfortable and supportive learning environment. Her approach was admirable.

The staff that I normally work with were not very familiar with the new port dressing kits. As I was monitoring the ECG competencies, Vikki was facilitating the port dressing station. She was giving the staff tips and tricks for accessing ports and completing the dressing change, and ensured that everyone felt confident and well-prepared. She explained things step by step and allowed questions throughout the presentation. I really appreciated her kindness and positivity in teaching the staff her tips and tricks.

Being able to observe this firsthand showed me how deeply rooted her genuine passion for nursing education is. Although collaboration is a hallmark of the NPDP team, Vikki’s efforts made me feel especially included and valued. Being involved in the planning, facilitating together, and touching base on how things went for these competencies was truly driven by Vikki.

Because of all her experience, Vikki has been a great mentor for me. Vikki has her NPD-BC certification, and when I spoke to her about it, she offered several resources for me to review and really encouraged me to take the exam. She encouraged me to attend an ANPD local chapter meeting and helped me feel comfortable at the meeting.

Vikki does not realize the extent of her impact, but has been an invaluable mentor and colleague. I am so grateful for her support, insight, and mentorship over the past year.

Vikki consistently goes above and beyond in her support of our staff. She exemplifies a deep passion for both nursing and continuous learning. Despite overseeing multiple units at OSU East, she ensures that no team feels overlooked or unsupported. Her communication is consistently clear and timely, and she continually seeks opportunities to serve as both a mentor and a leader for our nursing staff.

A recent example highlights the profound impact of her leadership. A newly hired nurse transitioning from a long-term care facility faced challenges adapting to the acute care environment. Vikki immediately stepped in to provide a strong foundation of support. She began by sending a thoughtful welcome letter, introducing herself and outlining her role in the nurse’s orientation. Within the first week, she met with the nurse in person to establish a relationship and offer guidance on how to succeed in the new role.

Throughout the orientation process, Vikki remained actively involved. She scheduled regular weekly check-ins, frequently visited the unit to engage with both the nurse and her preceptor, and offered a wealth of resources. Her mentorship extended beyond administrative support; she provided one-on-one teaching, daily encouragement, and professional development opportunities, all of which played a critical role in the nurse’s successful transition.

Vikki brings an infectious energy and dedication to everything she does, making OSU East a stronger, more supportive environment for her units, her colleagues, and ultimately, the patients we serve.

Thank you, Vikki, for your outstanding commitment and leadership.
