Sarah made a meaningful difference in our family’s care in countless ways. While all of the nurses who cared for P during her 38-day stay at DHMC for APML treatment were excellent, every family member agreed that Sarah was our absolute favorite. She seamlessly combined deep expertise and strong clinical skills with genuine compassion and empathy, making us feel confident, supported, and truly cared for. Sarah consistently took extra time to ensure everyone’s needs were met—especially P’s. She connected with her in a way that made the hospital feel less frightening and more like a place where she could feel safe and even have fun. Some of our favorite memories from our stay were because of her: teaching P the “chicken wing” song, helping her make bracelets, and playfully going along with the idea that there must be “giggle juice” in P’s medicine. These small, joyful moments brought light into a very difficult time and helped P cope with everything she was facing. Sarah didn’t just care for P medically; she cared for her emotionally, and she cared for all of us as a family. Her kindness, presence, and willingness to go above and beyond made an unforgettable difference, and we are deeply grateful for the support she provided during this really difficult time for our family.
