She was the very first nurse to care for our baby, and from the moment she stepped into the room, her presence brought warmth, steadiness, and hope.
I am nominating Brittany because she is the kind of nurse who changes lives without even realizing it. When our son R was transferred to Dell Children’s at just 5 days old for emergency surgery, my world felt like it was falling apart. I was only 5 days postpartum from a C-section—physically hurting, emotionally fragile, terrified of the unknown. I remember standing there crying, my husband trying to stay strong, and everything around us felt heavy and impossible. Then we met Brittany. She was the very first nurse to care for our baby, and from the moment she stepped into the room, her presence brought warmth, steadiness, and hope. Even though she is young, her passion and confidence shine through in every action. She cared for R with such gentleness and skill that it eased fears I didn’t even have words for. She didn’t just treat his medical needs—she treated our hearts. She explained every step, held space for our emotions, and reminded me over and over that we weren’t alone. When I was breaking down, she was the one who helped me breathe again. When I felt lost, she guided us with compassion and clarity. She became the one person I felt safe trusting with my fragile newborn, and I knew immediately that she had to be my baby’s primary nurse. Brittany went far beyond what any family could hope for. She supported me as a new mother, making sure I had what I needed postpartum, checking on me as much as she checked on R, always paying attention to the little details that mean everything when your world is upside down. When my baby needed another surgery, she was right there again, holding me as I tried to swallow my tears and telling me we would get through it together. I don’t think she realizes how much emotional strength she poured into us during those moments. Brittany has become a part of our family. Knowing R is in her care gives us peace, comfort, and the ability to sleep at night. Her kindness, her knowledge, her heart—she is truly an angel in the NICU. She has made a lifelong impact on our child and on us as parents. There are not enough words to express our gratitude, but we hope this nomination shows even a fraction of how deeply she has changed our lives. We will forever be grateful for her and the Dell NICU team.
