What stood out to me was how Hannah approached him with unwavering compassion.
I had the privilege of watching Hannah care for an older gentleman who was experiencing significant physiological distress. He was very talkative, anxious, and needed constant reassurance. Throughout his stay, he required a great deal of time, patience, and emotional presence, something that can be incredibly demanding in a busy hospital environment.
What stood out to me was how Hannah approached him with unwavering compassion. She never made him feel like a burden. She listened to his stories (even though he repeated them often), responded to his needs with genuine kindness, and consistently maintained a calm and grounded presence. She treated him with dignity and respect every moment she was at his bedside.
The care she gave was not loud or flashy, but it was deeply meaningful. She made a vulnerable patient feel safe, heard, and valued. She reminded me of why nursing is a profession built on humanity. For these reasons and so many more, I believe she truly exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY award.
