Had I not had such a positive experience with Nurse Haley, I probably would have waited too long to do the stress testing at my regular OB and not come back in.
On Friday night, when I first went to the emergency obstetrics department, I was placed in the care of Nurse Haley. I have extreme anxiety when it comes to hospitals and emergency rooms due to poor experiences elsewhere, and I communicated how silly I felt for coming in and apologized for potentially wasting her time. Nurse Haley immediately reassured me and told me that it was more than okay for me to come in, that my concerns weren't silly, and that she and the entire team on staff wanted to make sure my baby and I were doing well.
My entire visit, she was caring and patient, lifting my mood and consistently checking on my comfort whilst informing me of each step they were taking in my care. I thought this was a one-off situation, that I had gotten extremely lucky, as she told me she usually works in the Labor department. I genuinely thought it was my lucky day that I had gotten placed with a nurse so wonderful. I never thought it would happen again, but I was proven wrong.
I went in again on Monday afternoon to do stress testing, as my OB hadn't had time, and on Monday, I met Nurse K. Nurse K was an angel. She was so caring and thoughtful. Just like my experience with Nurse Haley, Nurse K went above and beyond in the same ways. Nurse Kim was constantly checking in on me, bringing me apple juice, talking with my mother-in-law and me about what we could expect, and reassuring me about my anxieties every step of the way.
That day, I was extremely stressed as I had not felt my baby move all day, and when I expressed my concerns to Nurse K, she immediately showed me my baby's heartbeat and got me an apple juice to encourage my little girl to wake up. She explained to me in great detail about how, no matter what concerns I have for my baby, it's always safe to come into the emergency obstetrics department and check on my little one. That my anxieties aren't silly, and it's better to be safe than sorry.
Nurse K and Nurse Haley went above and beyond in their care for me, and I am eternally grateful. Had I not had such a positive experience with Nurse Haley, I probably would have waited too long to do the stress testing at my regular OB and not come back in. Had I not had such a wonderful experience with Nurse K, my expectant delivery would have held much more stress and anxiety over my head. My two visits to the emergency obstetrics in downtown Orlando have relieved my anxieties immensely. I didn't feel like a burden or like I was crazy. I felt heard and understood.
Even though I know this is specifically for nurses, I'd also like to honorably mention Dr. T, as her care with me on both evenings played a major part in putting me at ease. Everyone on staff was so incredibly kind and caring, and I really couldn't have had a better experience anywhere. Thank you to Dr. T, Nurse Haley, and Nurse K for making an anxiety-ridden soon-to-be mother feel at ease. I am so grateful for all that you've done, and I am so relieved to be giving birth at AdventHealth in downtown Orlando
