There has been a patient on 5 Core for almost 2 weeks with a terminal diagnosis. The patient’s husband has physical ailments himself and is confined to a wheelchair. He is confined to his home without any means to travel unless transported by a medical transport company. With all treatment modalities exhausted for the patient, the patient’s husband wanted to see his wife one last time before he made her comfort measures only, and to compassionately withdraw care on his soulmate & wife. Without having the means to pay out of pocket for medical transport, the case manager, Brigid, and Social Worker E took matters into their own hands and paid for the medical transport for the husband of this patient to have the ability to say goodbye one last time. This act of compassion, generosity, and care goes beyond what can be taught in any educational or academic program.

This is just plain and simple human kindness. The world and healthcare need more caring individuals like these two incredible humans!
