I was in awe of how deeply he cared—not just for her body, but for her heart, her grief, and her experience.
During one of the most heartbreaking and vulnerable moments of our lives, we were met with a level of care, compassion, and grace that words can hardly capture. My friend came to the childbirth floor after finding out she had lost her baby six months pregnant. After receiving the devastating news, she chose to be induced so she could have a natural birth.

She was in labor for more than 24 hours, and throughout that long, emotional process, JP was patient, kind, and incredibly present. He supported her with such tenderness, never rushing her, and honoring her wish to bring her baby into the world in the most natural way possible—even in loss.

He consistently communicated her care plan clearly and compassionately to the night shift nurse every time he went off shift. His attention to detail and continuity of care made us feel safe and seen. But beyond medical care, it was the emotional support he gave that will stay with us forever.

He created the sweetest memory box for my friend and her partner, filled with thoughtful items that honored their baby’s life. He made sure they were able to keep what they could—tokens of memory that now hold immeasurable meaning.

On his last shift with us, before going off duty, he looked at us in the eyes and thanked us for letting him care for my friend. That moment will stay with me forever. I was in awe of how deeply he cared—not just for her body, but for her heart, her grief, and her experience.

The DAISY Award is a meaningful way to honor the extraordinary compassion and dedication that JP showed during such a painful and sacred time.
