During their visit, we had a small Easter Egg hunt in his room, and Ms. Burgoon brought in an Easter treat just for them, saying the Easter Bunny visits the hospital too. This made both of the children happy to know that all the "sick people" would have a nice Easter as well.
On behalf of my husband (the patient), myself, and our entire family, we would like to recognize Ms. Stacey Burgoon. Stacey was a true blessing to us in so many ways. We had the honor of having Ms. Burgoon as my husband's nurse during the very first days of what was to be a very lengthy stay at University Hospital that resulted from a tragic accident.

We soon realized the challenges ahead, but Stacey was always very sensitive, positive, upbeat, understanding, and truly sincere in her actions. She was able to effectively communicate all that was going on, medications, expectations, procedures, etc., all while being able to bring smiles, not only to her patient, but to all the family as we faced a very difficult and life-changing event.

As we were approaching Easter and realized our family traditions would not be taking place this year, we were granted privileges that would allow our two grandchildren to visit their PawPaw. Our 8-year-old grandson, who witnessed the accident, was very sad and concerned about his grandpa, not to mention traumatized. During their visit, we had a small Easter Egg hunt in his room, and Ms. Burgoon brought in an Easter treat just for them, saying the Easter Bunny visits the hospital too. This made both of the children happy to know that all the "sick people" would have a nice Easter as well.

After their visit, our grandson told his parents how much better his PawPaw looked. Both of the children knew that she was taking good care of him. Another quality of Stacey's true dedication to her patients is her ability and desire to listen. To truly listen to her patients! She remembered my husband talking about his favorite dessert. Once he was cleared for food, she went above and beyond to personally bring in ice cream for him and me.

There were times later on during our stay that we would meet in the halls and she would always ask about a family member, our upcoming vacation, how we were doing, or comment on a topic of discussion that was had while she was assigned to us.

Ms. Burgoon exhibits true compassion and caring for her patients. It is evident that nursing is not her job. It is her calling. Her dedication to nursing is what qualifies her for the DAISY Award, as she was, and will always be, our nurse angel.
