I was a patient at IUH Fishers. Danielle was my nurse during three different procedures. She was kind, professional, and compassionate from the very start. However, I am writing this specifically about my interaction with her on a specific day.

I came in before my procedure to have wires placed before my surgical procedure. Being a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient, I was completely overwhelmed with the entire process. I was nervous about the surgery. While waiting for Dr Nartker to do the final consent, Danielle said “I already prayed for you once this morning, would it be ok if I prayed over you now?” Wow.

Over a month later, I still get emotional thinking about that moment. For me, this is a moment I will not forget in my lifetime. In that moment, with that simple action, Danielle gave me peace and comfort. How wonderful it is to have a nurse who not only comes to work to do their job but also comes with a heart that genuinely cares for their patients. Danielle’s compassion more than exemplifies the attributes worthy of a DAISY Award.
