She was so caring and gentle.
Entered the ED with my sister, who had terminal pancreatic cancer. Selena was our primary RN. Amazing care!!! She was so caring and gentle. My sister was grieving the loss of her husband, in increasingly intense pain herself, and unsure of the course of her own treatment going forward. Selena advocated on her behalf, helping R understand it was ok to be admitted to the hospital, and that it was ok to expect to be discharged in time for her husband's funeral the middle of the following week. While my sister wasn't able to attend the funeral, Selena and others in the ED never shamed R into thinking she was doing something "wrong" or "bad" in wanting to attend the funeral. She stressed to R that no one would be mad at her for wanting to attend, and if at all safe for her to do so, she should attend. When Gastro Physicians discussed scans with us, and I wasn't able to completely follow along (I was exhausted at this point), Selena was very helpful in asking clarifying questions she knew I had and getting the physician to speak in a way I could understand. She was a gift for both of us.
