When Mackenzie went down to the cafeteria to check on the patient, the family took the time to thank her, and they all applauded her efforts.
Mackenzie went above and beyond to bring joy to a patient who was heartbroken about missing his annual Christmas party—a tradition he plans and cherishes every year. This celebration is a big deal for him: his entire family travels from across the state to gather and celebrate together. Unfortunately, this year, he found himself in the hospital, and with more than 40 family members expected, hosting the party in his room was impossible.

Determined to lift his spirits, Mackenzie brainstormed ways to make the day special. She obtained permission from the provider to allow the patient to leave his room and celebrate with his family in the large room in the back of the cafeteria. The family sprang into action with decorations, tables with presents, and lots of food brought in. They were able to transform the area into a space where they could have their annual Christmas party. Thanks to her creativity and compassion, the patient was able to attend his beloved Christmas party surrounded by all his loved ones. He was moved to tears and expressed deep gratitude for being able to experience a piece of the holiday he had been longing for. Mackenzie’s actions are a true testament to her empathy and dedication—always going the extra mile to make her patients feel cared for and valued.

Mackenzie's actions have the largest impact on both patients and co-workers. She is always willing to help anyone in need and jumps into action quickly. For this patient, she was able to help honor his traditions. The family was equally appreciative, sharing how much it meant to celebrate together despite the circumstances. When Mackenzie went down to the cafeteria to check on the patient, the family took the time to thank her, and they all applauded her efforts.
