As someone who has spent many long days and nights at my mother's bedside, I can say with complete confidence that Kevin represents the very best of nursing.
I would like to recognize Kevin for the extraordinary care, compassion, and unwavering dedication he has shown to my mother. Having been at the hospital with her through multiple admissions, I have seen firsthand how Kevin consistently goes above and beyond for his patients - and especially for my mom.
Kevin cared for her during a hospitalization six months ago, and even then, his kindness and attentiveness stood out. He took the time to truly listen to her, explain what was happening, and make sure she felt safe. When we learned he would be her nurse again during her most recent stay, it brought us both a sense of comfort during a very frightening time.
After my mother's coronary angiogram, she developed severe swelling, bruising, and a loss of feeling in her fingers. As a family member watching this unfold, it was terrifying. But Kevin noticed the changes immediately and treated the situation with the urgency it deserved. When the initial request for a CT scan was denied, he did not back down. He trusted what he was seeing clinically and worked tirelessly to make sure my mother received the imaging she needed.
Kevin stayed several hours past the end of his shift to make sure the CT scan was completed. Because of his persistence and advocacy, the scan revealed a radial artery pseudoaneurysm that required an emergency fasciotomy. His actions prevented what could have become a devastating outcome.
Throughout everything, Kevin remained calm, compassionate, and focused. He kept us informed, reassured my mother when she was scared, and advocated for her with a determination I will never forget. His dedication didn't just make a difference - it truly protected her life.
