I believe she was the one nurse who gave my brother hope and reassurance that he would make it back home.
My brother spent 5 weeks in the ICU. His stay there had many bumps and curves. Kim was one of the many great nurses who were assigned to him, but Kim had the humor to get him not to give up on the day's progress when it was going the wrong way. She was life-giving to me and was kind and compassionate when I needed a pick-me-up!
She wouldn't allow my brother to just lie in bed but encouraged him to sit in the chair, take a little walk, and even wheeled him out onto the patio for a change of scenery and some fresh air. Kim advocated for us with doctors and even approached me to talk to the doctors when progress wasn't happening. I am so blessed and thankful for Kim, who helped me to understand all the medical aspects of my brother's case, as well as explain the medications they were trying to get his blood pressure up and off of the vasopressors.
All of this and more made me keep a stiff upper lip and encourage my brother that he would get better and leave the ICU. I believe she was the one nurse who gave my brother hope and reassurance that he would make it back home.
