You did not hesitate and stepped in, but rather than doing it for her, you fostered trust and guided her through the process.
Susan, this one was a difficult one to put into words because I have witnessed you be an extraordinary and compassionate nurse with our S, from patients to the multi-disciplinary team. You are a leader in nursing and lead by example.
There was a lot going on -IV, respiratory needs, orders, etc., the multidisciplinary team was present. The father of the baby was watching all of this take place; you acknowledged him, his concerns, and questions, and provided the guidance that he needed in the moment as he watched his baby being cared for. He eventually went back with the mother and the team continued to work with baby. The RN openly voiced to you that this was her first time doing an admission of this type, you could tell she was nervous but also knew if anyone could provide that support in a judgement-free zone, it would be you. You did not hesitate and stepped in, but rather than doing it for her, you fostered trust and guided her through the process.
You lead by example, and by doing so, you created a positive ripple effect. A student who was present quoted, "I really hope I get to encounter this during my journey." You demonstrated professionalism thorough a challenging situation while fostering a positive and supportive environment. Truly, it is an honor to be able to work with an RN as dedicated as you. You inspire, motivate, are compassionate, honest, and promote a positive work environment. Thank you for promoting the importance of working as a collaborative team! You are appreciated.
