Because of Wendy’s compassion, quick action, and ingenuity, Mom was able to spend valuable time with her precious baby.
This patient was 35 weeks pregnant when her water broke. She came to Northside, where they started to induce her. During the induction, the placenta abrupted and the patient was rushed to the OR. The baby was born but was in critical condition and was rushed to the NICU. The patient was transferred to FCC just before the shift change.

She wanted to be with her baby; however, C-section patients are typically not able to be left out of bed for 12 hours due to the epidural, Foley, anesthesia, etc. Wendy Rodriguez-Castillo, FCC RN, took over care at 7:00 am. Wendy knew how important it was to get her to see her baby due to her critical status. Wendy jumped into action and assessed her other patients before heading into the patient room.

At 7:45 am Wendy got a wheelchair and took her to see the baby. Unfortunately, the news she and her husband were given about their daughter’s condition was devastating. The patient wanted to stay with her daughter until the very last moment. Wendy helped get her comfortable and got approval to administer all of her medications, obtain vital signs, etc in the NICU.

Just a few short hours later, their daughter passed away. Because of Wendy’s compassion, quick action, and ingenuity, Mom was able to spend valuable time with her precious baby.
