Even with how busy the department was, she stayed on top of everything and checked on my family member often
On a December evening, my family member was brought by ambulance to the Emergency Department at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital under very serious circumstances. We did not know what to expect, and our family was overwhelmed.
Then Hannah came into the room. From the moment she started speaking with us, I felt calmer. She was attentive, caring, and fully present. Even with how busy the department was, she stayed on top of everything and checked on my family member often. She also checked on us and made sure we had what we needed. She was kind enough to allow the three of us to remain for some time, even though only two visitors were typically permitted. She also brought an extra chair, snacks, and water for us, which meant a great deal during that time.
When it was time for us to leave, I felt more at peace knowing Hannah was caring for my family member. I asked whether she might be able to call me in the morning with an update, never expecting that she actually would. Around 6:30 a.m., after a very busy night in the Emergency Department, she called as promised before going home. She did not forget.
If my family member had not had a nurse like Hannah, I do not think I would have been able to leave that night. What she did for my family has stayed with me. Hannah should be recognized not only for the care she provides as a nurse, but also for the way she supports patients and families during difficult moments. Hannah, thank you again for your attentiveness, kindness, and thoughtfulness.
