For the past 6 years, she has helped create a space for families to come and do their Christmas shopping for their inpatient children and siblings who are in the hospital during this time.
Jamie Plunkett began her journey in the PICU over ten years ago as a patient care technician and has since grown into one of our most seasoned and respected CN4 nurses. Over the past decade, she has consistently provided extraordinary, compassionate care to countless patients and families, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encounters.
Her dedication to patient-centered care is evident in everything she does - from providing comforting spa baths to serving as a Rapid Response and Vascular Access Nurse for the hospital - she can always be found serving others. As a preceptor and resource RN for the PICU, Jamie exhibits bedside leadership, doing whatever is needed to support our patients and colleagues. Her guidance, knowledge, calm presence, and clinical expertise are invaluable to both the PICU and the hospital at large. She also serves as our Lifelink Champion, passionately advocating for organ donation and educating staff on the profound impact it can have on patients and families beyond our organization.
Beyond her clinical excellence, Jamie brings joy and connection to our staff. She has been an integral member of our engagement committee for several years, devoting countless hours to organizing and executing monthly coffee carts with creative themes that uplift and support our team. Her efforts foster morale, connection, and a sense of community within our unit.
Additionally, she spreads joy during the holiday season by organizing a Christmas toy drive, extending compassion and cheer to our PICU families. For the past 6 years, she has helped create a space for families to come and do their Christmas shopping for their inpatient children and siblings who are in the hospital during this time. She helps create flyers for this event, gathers and organizes the toys, and sets up the space. Last year, she had the idea to extend this Christmas generosity to other units within the hospital and set up a secondary shopping space in the Zone for families to shop. When talking to some of the families, several parents were in tears, expressing their immense gratitude for such a generous and compassionate gesture.
Her kindness, compassion, and selflessness touch hearts in ways that cannot be fully described. Her unwavering commitment to our patients, families, and colleagues is deeply treasured. It is difficult to put into words the profound impact Jamie has made on countless patients, families, and in our unit over the years. She consistently goes above and beyond in everything that she does, exemplifying the true spirit and heart of a DAISY Award recipient.
