Without uttering a word, they infused us with hope each day as they tirelessly attended to every need.
Our beloved 16-year-old son was diagnosed with T-cell ALL. The moment we were rushed from the Richmond ER to the 12th floor, we were enveloped by a team of nurses who were not just caregivers but compassionate souls. They sensed the whirlwind of pain, confusion, and a kaleidoscope of emotions that my son and us, as parents, were drowning in. Throughout our month-long stay, they treated us with the warmth and familiarity of family, not just patients. They opened their hearts, sharing personal stories and experiences that bridged the gap between us. Without uttering a word, they infused us with hope each day as they tirelessly attended to every need. They encouraged my son to walk, and some even joined him, turning those steps into moments of shared strength. This was just the beginning of a daunting treatment journey, and I know the road ahead is long and fraught with challenges. Yet, the conversations with these incredible women and the way they eased our fears and answered our questions have instilled in us a profound confidence. We know we are under the care of an extraordinary team that genuinely loves what they do. And if, heaven forbid, we face another extended stay, we take solace in knowing we will be surrounded by amazing people who are angels in nurses' scrubs. I regret not remembering all their names, but each one was a true angel, a beacon of light in our darkest hour.
