She could have delegated the dirty work, but instead she jumped in, in her nice clothes, and never hesitated.
Kara was on our unit as a manager/director, dressed in professional clothes with high heels, when we discovered two of our patients, twins, had bed bugs in the room. The staff was freaking out, crying, and anxiety was through the roof in the unit.
As soon as we told Kara, she jumped right into action. She not only took care of the administrator duties of notifying housekeeping and getting the room cleaned, but she also covered her pretty clothes, put on comfortable shoes, got into PPE, and went into that room, helping to give the twin boys a shower, scrubbing things down, moving cribs around, decontaminating items, and relocating the boys to a clean room once they were ready.
This was especially difficult because these boys were autistic, FTT, and had behavioral outbursts. I was so impressed that the director plunged into action so fast and did not hesitate to dive into the hard work when no one else wanted to. This exemplified such a helpful spirit. She could have delegated the dirty work, but instead she jumped in, in her nice clothes, and never hesitated.
She calmed the anxious staff and exemplified true compassionate care for the patients, the staff, and the hospital’s safety. She is a wonderful, helpful manager/director, and she deserves to be recognized for how helpful she was in a terrible situation.
Super Nurse in High Heels!
