I am nominating Elizabeth for the DAISY Award because she stepped up for me during one of the most overwhelming and frightening moments of my life, when I truly did not know what to do next. While I was receiving care at the Tomah VA, I was facing a serious legal situation involving a missed court appearance. I was under extreme stress and felt lost, ashamed, and afraid of the consequences. During that desperate time, Elizabeth went above and beyond, reaching out to my legal team with me. She did this because she genuinely cared and recognized that I needed help when I did not know how to advocate for myself. She treated me like a human being, not just a patient. Elizabeth listened without judgment, showed compassion when I was at my lowest, and took real action to support me. Her willingness to step in and help during such a critical moment restored a sense of hope and stability when I felt completely overwhelmed. What this nurse did will stay with me for the rest of my life. Her kindness, advocacy, and dedication represent the very best of nursing and everything the DAISY Award stands for. Elizabeth embodies the VA’s values of integrity, commitment, respect, and excellence, and I am deeply grateful for the care and humanity they showed me. She truly made a difference when it mattered most.
