Nurses are supposed to be kind and caring, and we felt that. You can tell Rob was meant to be a nurse. It was his calling, not just a job.
My husband has been extremely fatigued for a long time, and I kept telling him he needed to go to the doctor. Of course, he was not really happy with it, but when things started to get worse, I started making appointments.
We went through a whole battery of tests and finally got to see Dr. L (whom, I might add, is pretty amazing), and the tests continued. Dr. L was booked solid, but he squeezed him in, which probably saved his life.
We were finally scheduled for a cardiac cath and found that he had a 99% blockage in his RCA and had two stents placed. We spent the night, and he had some complications, then just before shift change, a 14-second ventricular standstill. The whole bottom part of his heart stopped working, and if he had gone home the night before, he would have died.
I happened to run into the right person at the elevators and told her about my husband. Enter the A-team! Within 1 hour, we had seen the whole team of doctors, and they decided to monitor him in the hospital for a few days.
We were transferred to a different unit, and Rob was our nurse the next morning. As soon as he walked in the door, you would feel his confidence. Rob’s positive attitude was contagious.
No one wants to be in the hospital, and no one wants to deal with staff who have a bad attitude, are grumpy, or are indifferent. He was a breath of fresh air and positive and supportive in every way.
Rob knew his job and did it extremely well. He let us know what he was doing and why. He was exceptionally skilled and professional. Nurses are supposed to be kind and caring, and we felt that. You can tell Rob was meant to be a nurse. It was his calling, not just a job.
Rob started asking Joe questions and doing his assessment. He provided education throughout the conversation. He taught about preventing infection and the importance of washing your hands.
Rob was so easy to talk to, listened, and we felt like we were the reason he came to work that day.
Thank you for having such an incredible person working here. Rob is the example of all the values that CarolinaEast strives to achieve. I felt honored to have him take care of my husband.
