I am honored to nominate Katrina Burton, Nursing Supervisor of the Clinical Travel Team within Employer Solutions, for the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence.
Over the past year, our team has navigated an unusual amount of transition-we've had two different managers, including several months when the position was entirely vacant. During this period, Katrina became the true steady force behind our team, providing stability, leadership, and compassion exactly when we needed it most.
During the manager vacancy, Katrina stepped up in a way that went far beyond "keeping things running." She partnered directly with our Director to lead the team and often carried responsibilities that would normally fall to a full-time manager. She ensured communication was clear, operations remained organized, and staff felt consistently supported throughout every stage of the transition.
When she helped onboard me as the new manager in the fall, Katrina's leadership was pivotal. She guided the team through one of our busiest seasons while also helping me get up to speed quickly in a complex environment. She made sure nothing fell through the cracks-even as expectations and workflows shifted around her.
Under Katrina's direction during this period of manager transition and onboarding, the team delivered 6,871 biometric screenings and 9,019 flu vaccines-one of our strongest performances to date. This success was not accidental; it was the direct result of her steady presence, her ability to motivate the team through uncertainty, and her commitment to ensuring our work never lost momentum.
Her leadership also extended beyond our immediate team. Katrina helped forge a new partnership with the Associate Health flu leaders-a collaboration that had not previously existed. Together, they built a unified, system-wide flu campaign that strengthened outreach and expanded our impact across the system.
Katrina consistently goes above and beyond. She logs in early, stays late, and does whatever it takes to ensure our team and our customers are supported. When staffing challenges arise, she never hesitates to jump in and work events herself. Her attention to detail is exceptional, and her ability to analyze data and catch potential issues before they escalate is truly remarkable.
Beyond her technical skill, Katrina is an extraordinary human being, kind, thoughtful, and grounded in integrity. You can always count on her to do the right thing and to care deeply about the people she works with. She checks in on her team both professionally and personally, truly valuing the whole person.
