Elsa's persistence in ensuring the patient was safely assessed and transferred shows how strong an advocate she is for her patients.
Elsa had a patient who was having difficulty breathing. A rapid was called, and it was decided that the patient would be alright with the interventions at that time. Elsa stayed to ensure the patient was indeed alright, but the patient was still not doing well. Elsa requested that the doctor and respiratory therapy return to recheck the patient, which they did. This is when they made the choice to move the patient to the ICU, where the patient coded twice. Elsa's persistence in ensuring the patient was safely assessed and transferred shows how strong an advocate she is for her patients. I love how she would not back down when told the patient would fare well. She saw trends moving in the wrong direction and quickly worked to ensure the patient was taken care of. I believe that the quick actions that Elsa made and the fact that she followed her gut feeling and called the doctor and RT back to make sure the patient was going to be alright actually saved this patient. Without Elsa, this patient would have coded sooner. She has grown into such a wonderful RN. If I am ever unwell and find myself in a hospital, I would want Elsa to be my RN.
