He elevates every unit he leads, continually raising expectations while inspiring his team with new ideas and enthusiasm.
Ed fosters a culture of positivity, encouragement, and genuine support. He is consistently visible on the units, attentive to staff concerns, and proactive in addressing them. He motivates his team, supports students as they grow into future nurses, and works every day to make 8E and 5F welcoming, uplifting environments.
When Ed accepted the position of Unit Director on 8E, the unit was experiencing significant turnover. He worked tirelessly to rebuild a positive work environment and restore stability. His leadership style balances compassion with assertiveness, and he has earned the trust and respect of the teams he leads.
He demonstrates adaptability by embracing change to improve the quality of patient care. He is professionally driven and competitive, striving for excellence and strong outcomes. His dedication is evident in everything he does.
Ed has demonstrated strong leadership abilities and has become a valued mentor to staff. Since joining the team, he has played a key role in helping the units grow and thrive.
This year, Ed continued to excel by taking on the additional responsibility of managing 11E, in addition to 8E and 5F, for approximately two months. When asked to step in during a leadership vacancy, he did not hesitate. Although unsure at first how he would balance the increased workload, he embraced the challenge and managed it exceptionally well.
He also accepted the opportunity to participate in a system workgroup dedicated to early recognition and prevention of hospital-acquired pressure injury (PSI-3). His involvement in this group facilitates the sharing of relevant information with the nursing leadership team, which will ultimately help improve our outcomes.
Ed leads by example and holds his team to high standards. His staff works cohesively and consistently delivers excellent care, reflected in positive feedback from patients and families and in the impressive number of DAISY nominees and award recipients on the unit.
He elevates every unit he leads, continually raising expectations while inspiring his team with new ideas and enthusiasm.
For these reasons, and many more, Ed is an outstanding candidate for this award.
