Peggy’s actions reflect the highest values of the nursing profession.
Peggy demonstrated exceptional professionalism, teamwork, and compassion while assisting with a patient who arrived through the Emergency Room for delivery. When asked to accompany the Labor and Delivery nurse to assist with care, Peggy responded immediately and without hesitation, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to patient care.

Upon arrival, Peggy listened attentively to instructions, remained calm, and stayed focused in a fast-paced and evolving situation. She adapted quickly and showed maturity and confidence beyond what is typically expected of a nursing student. Her willingness to step into an unfamiliar environment reflected her dedication to learning and providing safe, effective care.

When the decision was made to transfer the patient to Labor and Delivery, Peggy acted promptly and assisted efficiently with transportation while prioritizing patient safety and comfort. Throughout the process, she maintained a calm and reassuring presence, communicating with compassion and helping to ease the patient’s anxiety during a vulnerable time.

Peggy continued to assist the healthcare team throughout the delivery process, demonstrating professionalism, respect, and a strong commitment to patient-centered care. She worked collaboratively with nurses, technicians, and fellow students, contributing positively to teamwork and the overall flow of care. The patient expressed sincere gratitude for the care received and appreciated the support provided by everyone involved, including Peggy.

Peggy’s actions reflect the highest values of the nursing profession. Her readiness to help, ability to remain composed under pressure, and genuine compassion for her patient are a credit to herself, South Texas College, and the nursing profession. In recognition of her extraordinary actions and dedication, Peggy was awarded the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students.
