. Because of Laura, my family felt trust, peace, and hope during one of the hardest moments of our lives.
My mom was admitted to the ICU due to an infection in her throat and having to be on a vent. Laura was her nurse during the day shift for the first couple of days. During that time of her caring for my mom, she was very attentive to the needs of my mom, although she couldn’t communicate what she needed.
Laura would talk my mom through things as if my mom was listening and responding, often you don’t see that in situations like this. Not only was she attentive to my mom, but she also took the time to sit down with my father and me and explain what was going on, what she was doing, and just answer any questions we had.
Laura also asked every time she came to check on her patient if we, as the family, needed anything. Overall, her work as a nurse is something to be inspired by. As someone who is working towards getting her nursing degree, I want to be half of the attentive nurse Laura was for our family in a hard situation. Her care for our mom and the family was amazing.

Laura went above and beyond with my family when I was being cared for by her. I was not able to personally meet Laura as I was intubated at the time, but my husband and children state that Laura provided exceptional care to me while I was intubated in the ICU.
During an incredibly frightening and uncertain time, Laura went far above and beyond her duties—not only in her clinical expertise, but with the compassion she showed our entire family. She explained the ICU environment, ventilator support, medications, and daily goals of care in a way they could understand.
According to my family, she provided me with dignity and respect at all times, talked to me when she was providing care and giving medication, comforted me when I was restless, and advocated for my needs.
Her calm presence, kindness, and willingness to take extra time made an overwhelming experience more manageable. Because of Laura, my family felt trust, peace, and hope during one of the hardest moments of our lives.
Laura truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award through her extraordinary ICU care, compassion, and dedication.
