DAISY Team Award – “The Journey to Milagro”
A pregnant patient struggling with meth addiction delayed seeking care due to fear of judgment and past trauma. When she finally arrived at the Milagro Clinic, she was met not with stigma but with genuine compassion, respect, and dignity.
The Milagro team provided comprehensive, wraparound support—including behavioral health, case management, counseling, and practical resources—addressing both her recovery and preparation for motherhood. Even during setbacks, the team consistently demonstrated empathy, never judgment, fostering trust and resilience.
At the time of delivery, despite complications, the coordinated care team and CARA plan ensured a safe discharge home with her newborn, keeping mother and child together.
Today, she is 18 months sober and thriving as a mother. She credits the Milagro team for believing in her, restoring her sense of self-worth, and transforming her life.
This team exemplifies compassionate, nonjudgmental, patient-centered care that changes lives for generations.
