Marilyn Berrios works the night shift. The B shift. I had my surgery at noon. The nurses here at Patewood Hospital are all excellent, but Marilyn excelled from the first minute she came in for a change-of-shift discussion. She saw me lying in a gurney that was used to transport me from surgery. I am 6 feet 6, and I was cramped and not fat, but the gurney was very narrow. She said I really should be changed over to a hospital bed, and she organized that all by herself. I nominate her for her great bedside manner and her ability to observe and change what needed to be changed regarding my comfort. I had all the nurses look at me and shake their heads at how tall I was on a small gurney, but Marilyn did something she did all by herself. She went and found a bed, moved it here, and set it up. Now that is really observant and astute. Bedside manner great, wonderful personality, good teacher of how to get in and out of bed. Cheerful, every time she came into the room, she responded cheerfully, all the time, most instantaneously when I buzzed for a nurse. I mean, she is the best nurse I've had, and I'm 83 years old. Unfortunately, this is my second total hip replacement. And I have seen many nurses. I was also a product manager in my professional life as a mechanical engineer for many years. I'm pretty good at assessing people. She needs to receive this award for being an outstanding person. Creative person, problem-solver, strong observational skills.
