He recognized that his hemoglobin was dropping and took swift action, which led to a timely blood transfusion and a return to surgery to cauterize bleeding blood vessels.
We are writing to nominate Alex for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary care he provided to our father during his recent ICU stay. Our father was transferred from another facility with a massive blood clot in his leg. He was immediately taken to the emergency surgery. The days that followed were incredibly difficult for our family, but the support and care Alex provided brought us great comfort and peace.
Alex cared for our father for several days and consistently went above and beyond to ensure he was comfortable, safe, and well-informed. Our father was understandably anxious and afraid that he was going to die. During moments of intense fear and confusion, Alex remained calm, compassionate, and patient. He communicated clearly and kindly, constantly reorienting him and explaining everything that was happening, no matter how many times it needed to be repeated. His clinical attentiveness was also outstanding. He recognized that his hemoglobin was dropping and took swift action, which led to a timely blood transfusion and a return to surgery to cauterize bleeding blood vessels. We are certain that his vigilance made a critical difference in his recovery.
Even when our father was confused and, at times, rude due to his condition, they treated him with unwavering dignity and respect. He ensured he was clean and comfortable when he was unable to care for himself, showing deep compassion in every interaction. We are incredibly grateful to all the ICU nurses, but we especially want to recognize Alex for the exceptional care and emotional support he provided not only to our father but to our entire family during an extremely trying time.
