She understands that illness affects more than just the person in bed, and she makes a point of including loved ones in conversations, providing reassurance, and offering support during difficult moments.
I would like to nominate Emma Loosli for the DAISY Award because she consistently exemplifies compassionate nursing. From the moment she enters a patient’s room, she brings kindness, patience, and genuine care that immediately puts both patients and their families at ease.
She takes the extra time to truly listen and understand each patient’s needs. She never makes anyone feel rushed or overlooked. Her care goes beyond routine tasks. She thoughtfully anticipates concerns, answers questions with patience, and ensures that every patient feels heard, respected, and supported.
What makes her especially remarkable is the way she also cares for her patients’ families. She understands that illness affects more than just the person in bed, and she makes a point of including loved ones in conversations, providing reassurance, and offering support during difficult moments. Her compassion extends to everyone in the room.
She is incredibly inquisitive and resilient in her care. When something doesn’t seem right, she asks questions, seeks answers, and advocates strongly for her patients. Her determination to fully understand each situation ensures that her patients receive the best possible care. Even during challenging shifts, she remains calm, thoughtful, and dedicated to doing what is right for her patients.
One moment that truly highlights her advocacy was with a previous patient whose condition was rapidly declining. She recognized the patient’s suffering and thoughtfully advocated for a goals-of-care conversation that ultimately led to the patient being placed on comfort care. Because of her compassion and courage to speak up, that patient was able to spend their final time peacefully and was able to die with dignity, surrounded by support.
Emma represents the heart of nursing. Compassion, advocacy, curiosity, and commitment to her patients and their families. She makes a meaningful difference in the lives of the people she cares for every single day, and she truly deserves recognition through the DAISY Award.
